There are very few events happening over the summer so I will not be sending updates as frequently. <div style=”background: #AAD1FD;”><strong>Strike Update: </strong>On June 22, the BC Labour Relations Board (LRB) ordered the organization representing Community Living employers – the Community Social Services Employer Association (CSSEA) – to cooperate to determine essential service levels. This will involve mediation and adjudication at the LRB, and should be finalized by July 22. See more at the <strong><a title=”Blog Posting” href=”http://family.baci.webfactional.com/support/essential-services-to-be-finalized-by-july-22nd/”>Family Support Blog</a></strong>.</div>
<strong>Celebration of Life – Roy Cavallin: </strong>We are sad to announce that Roy Cavallin, a long-time active member of BACI, has passed. Our condolences go to his family and, in particular, his son Tim. A celebration of Roy’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 12 at 1:00 pm, at Oceanview Funeral Chapel, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby.
<div style=”background: #AAD1FD;”><strong>Building Connections:</strong> BACI’s Family Resource Drop-In. It’s a fun time for children up to six years of age to express themselves through music, as well as a great time for parents/caregivers to socialize and build support networks.

<strong>Summer Hang Out in Vancouver: </strong>is an exciting week-long program for high-functioning teens with developmental disabilities to meet new friends and have fun.

<strong>Phil Allen: The One Most Likely to Succeed </strong>Al Etmanski has written a short article on long-time BACI friend Phil Allen. Phil is still an active advocate, sits on BACI’s Advocacy Committee and he is a newly published author. You can get a free copy of Phil’s book too! <strong>Ripple Effect 7:</strong> BCACL is hosting The Ripple Effect 7, a retreat for families supporting a child with special needs, coming October 14 – 16 2011. This fall’s retreat will be held at the Ainsworth Hot Springs Resort in the West Kootenays. The Ripple Effect is a chance for families to join facilitators from the BC Association for Community Living and other families from across B.C. for a FREE thought-provoking and educational retreat, exploring the power of advocacy and community development. Established in 2006, the Children and Youth with Special Needs (CYSN)<strong> </strong>Fund provides grants to families who have children or youth (under 19) with special needs living at home. <strong>SFSCL Summer Youth Drop-In:</strong> The Simon Fraser Society for Community Living is once again offering a community based, summer drop-in youth group for youth aged 15 – 24 who live in the Tri-Cities and New Westminster and have developmental disabilities.
