BACI Youth Summer Camp: Registration is now open for summer camp. Enjoy arts, recreation and day trips. This camp is open to youth 13 -18 years of age who live in Burnaby or New Westminster and are MCFD -CYSN  funded. Each week has a special theme and costs $60.00. The number of weeks available to each camper will depend upon demand. More information can be found on THE WEBSITE.

Canada Day in Burnaby: In celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday and Burnaby’s 125th birthday special celebrations are being held all around the city. See The City of Burnaby WEBSITE for  family friendly activities, free concerts and fireworks.

Symphony in Deer Lake Park: The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra will perform a free concert of light classics and crowd pleasing favourites. Come early and bring a picnic. Note that parking is very limited for this event. More information can be found on the City of Burnaby WEBSITE.

Chinese Christian Ministry (CCM) Special Needs Support Group:  This month the groups is taking a day trip to Harrison Hot Springs. Along the way they will visit a honey farm and a u-pick berry farm. Activities and workshops are in Cantonese with Mandarin translation.  Group goals are outlined in the MINISTRY PAMPHLET. Rare Disease Foundation Family Picnic and BBQ: An afternoon of fun, food, games and carousel rides. Camp Spectacular: Burnaby Parks and Rec and BACI join to offer a summer day camp for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Each week has a special theme and offers arts and crafts, games, swimming, healthy cooking,  day trips and more. There are four day camps for children 5 -12 years which run in the month of July. In August there are four day camps for adults 19 years and older.  Each is a week long. See THE LEISURE GUIDE or the WEB REGISTRATION page for more information.

 PosAbilities Summer Camps:  Social Skills camp for youth 14 – 18 years focuses on friendship skills and social behaviours and is based on the PEERS curriculum. There are two two week sessions one in July and one in August.  At Head Start Camp youth will learn about employment and post high school opportunities. This camp for youth 14 – 18 years will run four times during July and August. See THE POSTER for details.

BC Mobility Opportunities Society (BCMOS) Summer Season:  Hike, paddle, sail or garden. BCMOS offers a wide range of accessible activities for people with disabilities. Book a TrailRider wheelchair and get into the woods, or enjoy an hour of supported kayaking in False Creek. Costs are minimal, though a membership form must be completed.  Bookings are available until the summer season ends on August 31st.

Camp Subsidy: The Cerebral Palsy Association of BC has a Campership Program which financially assists individuals of all ages to attend a special-needs camp of their choice in BC. Subsidies can be used for camp fees, transportation or attendant care fees. Applications are due by June 30.

Mindfulness App: The Health Literacy Team at BC Children’s Hospital along with a number of other experts and youth have developed a free app, called Breathr, to introduce the concept of mindfulness and provide an easy access point to those who are new to this practice. Burnaby Parks and Recreation Adapted Programs: While people with disabilities are encouraged to join any Burnaby Parks and Rec  program that appeals to them, a number of adapted programs are available. See THE WEBSITE or view THE ACCESS BROCHURE.
