The Seniors Committee and Outreach Spring Tea

If your family has any member over 60, or if the individual in your family served by BACI is over 45, your family is encouraged to participate in the Spring Tea. We will be serving a light lunch followed by short cake, strawberries and fresh whipped cream. Join Team BACI for the Walk/Wheel Burnaby & New West Challenge

Starting April 8th, everyone working or living in Burnaby and New Westminster is encouraged to participate in this month-long challenge by tracking and sharing your daily walking minutes. If you’re in a wheelchair, track and share your wheeling time. The goal is for people to walk/wheel at least 30 minutes each day for better health. Celebrate Earth Day with BACI

Celebrate Earth Day with BACI. From 10:00 am to 3:00 pm we will be collecting used clothing clothing, accessories, bedding and towels to raise money for our Children’s Programs. Donating  is a great way to keep items out of landfills. From noon until 3:00 pm you can also join garden co-ordinator Rachel Goddyn and plant some butterfly friendly plants in our Community Garden.

BACI Advocacy Committee 

The Advocacy Committee works to promote access and inclusion in Burnaby, British Columbia and beyond. We raise awareness and provide information to government regulators and businesses including The City of Burnaby and Translink. New members are welcomed. Our next meeting is on Tuesday, April 30th.

Straws and Accessibility Workshop

Do you rely on plastic straws as an adaptive aid? Will the upcoming ban on plastic straws in Vancouver impact you or the people your organization supports? If so, the City of Vancouver would like to hear from you. Vancouver is considering requiring vendors to supply bendable plastic straws for customers who need them. To better understand if this is the preferred approach, they are hosting workshops and one-on-one interviews to gather input from people who rely on straws as an adaptive aid.  See the POSTER for more information

Burnaby School District Transition Evening

An evening for youth from 13 to 24 years of age and their families to learn about the supports and services available for young adults. Learn about the process and timeline involved when transitioning to adulthood. Organizations who provide work, leisure, post-secondary education and other opportunities will be in attendance. Sip and Paint for Inculsion

Unleash your inner Picasso at Alternative Creations Studio! Your $30 ticket includes refreshments, snacks, supplies, and all the instruction you’ll need to create your own masterpiece. Beginners are welcome. A cash bar and pizza (by donation) will also be available. Proceeds from this event will go towards the annual INCLUSION Art Show & Sale, held each fall during Community Inclusion Month. BC Epilepsy Society Expo and AGM

Kinsight has two interesting information sessions coming up.  

Representation Agreements: Representation Agreements are a legal tool for decision making. An adult with a disability can choose someone to help represent them in legal, financial and health matters. Wills, Trusts & Estates: Ken Kramer, Q.C. and Audrey Jun are estate lawyers with KMK Law Corporation.  Stage Door Presents: ‘Skit-tageous Outrageous’

Stage Door, an theatre company for people of all abilities, breaks new ground by trying out ‘something different’ with their upcoming show. Mid Main Community Health Centre dental services are available to everyone, and they do not have a catchment area. Patients with Persons with Disability coverage are accepted and the centre does not charge additional fees. See the WEBSITE for more information. 

‘Sesame Street’ introduces family of Julia, first muppet with autism

In 2017 Julia, a muppet with autism joined Sesame Street. This April, in honour of Autism Awareness Month, the program is expanding Julia’s role and introducing her family to fans. As well they offering autism resources on their website. Read more HERE

Burnaby Parks and Recreation’s Spring and Summer Access Service Guide Now Available

Explore specialized and adapted programs in the Access Service Guide.  People with disabilities are also welcome to consider any program in the general Leisure Guide that interests them. Support by a staff or an access volunteer may be available. Contact the access coordinator at 604-297-4576 to facilitate support.Registration for spring and summer programs is now open.
