BACI’s Community Garden Harvest Fest

It is time to celebrate our community garden boxes and the wonderful food they have produced. Everyone is welcome to share and help. BACI Hosts Personal Planning Month

In October BACI will be partnering with Nidus to offer four free planning webinars. BACI family services consultant, Rachel Goddyn, is the host and is also available to follow up with families. Nidus is a leader in providing information and resources about estate and personal planning. Sessions will be held at Bob Prittie Library near Metrotown. BACI Advocacy Committee 

The Advocacy Committee works to promote access and inclusion in Burnaby, British Columbia and beyond. We raise awareness and provide information to government regulators and businesses including The City of Burnaby and Translink. New members are welcomed. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, Sept 17th.

DIY Terracotta Pots: This social event is an opportunity for parents to relax and socialize. It is free. Childminding is not provided Registration is open until September 19th and capped at 15 adults.

Provincial PWD Benefits – What They Are & How to Apply: This session will include a presentation on the application process and what to expect during the process, as well as information on benefit amounts, allowable assets, the bus pass program, and earnings limitations. Transition Planning: Stages & Steps: There are many areas to consider in planning and building a good life for a young adult after high school. The best transition planning starts early, builds a team and support network around the young person and their family, and is person-centered.This free session is suitable for parents of teens aged 15 and up and for professionals/educators who support transitioning youth who have a developmental disability.

Northwest Burnaby Community Centres Survey

The City of Burnaby is exploring the development of new parks and recreation facilities in northwest Burnaby and are asking for community feedback. These facilities are important to BACI.  Willingdon Heights Community Centre has provided space for BACI individuals to play basketball, air hockey and pool. Eileen Daily Pool is a favourite swimming destination. Take the survey HERE and give your input.

Where do you want to live?  What does your ideal home look like? The Inclusive Housing Task Force, co-chaired by Community Living BC (CLBC) and Inclusion BC, is interested in knowing about people’s current and desired housing, including when they hope to access housing.   By answering questions in this online SURVEY, you can help the Task Force and its partners in their efforts to increase access to housing

Employment Works is a program that offers employment preparedness training and support, combined with job sampling and hands-on experience, to adults with autism and other disabilities. Burnaby Parks and Recreation’s Fall and Winter Leisure Guide Now Available

Registration for most Fall 2019 and Winter 2020 programs has started.  To see adapted and accessible programs check out the ACCESS BROCHURE. Individuals with disabilities can also sign up for other programs listed in the LEISURE GUIDE . People that need extra support are welcome to bring a support person with them. In addition Parks and Rec. access volunteers may be available to facilitate participation and provide minimal support. Call 604-297-4576 to speak to the access co-ordinator.
