Translink calling on customers!
 
Translink issued a statement in the "Buzzer" on Sept. 21, 2007, calling on customers to be extra courteous to those with special needs! With regards to the persons with disabilities, elderly, and mobility challenged, customers must ensure that designated courtesy seating, is reserved for those who need it most! Facelift for Metrotown Skytrain Station
 

$25,000,000 proposed to upgrade Metrotown station will include:

  1. Extended platform and new roof
  2. New westbound and eastbound station access
  3. New elevators
  4. Improved signage(long overdue)
  5. Possibly public toilets
  6. Better access to station from Kingsway, Grange, as it is quite dangerous right now

This facelift will take place hopefully in 2008!!!

If you are planning a trip on Translink just Google Transit: it is very easy; you just input the info and a map and itinerary will be produced in seconds! How great is that!!!

Universally Accessible Transit
 
Access Transit has come up with a plan designed to remove physical and logistical barriers for Persons with Disabilities when using Transit. The proposed accessible features include:
-Tactile way-finding aids
-Visual and auditory aids
-Elevator and ramp characteristics
-Audio and visual "Next-Stop" features provided for all stops
-Hand-held GPS device to provide user with audible directions...

The buses Start Talking Back!
 
Translink is installing a new system on to 1300 buses: as the bus approaches its next stop, the voice comes on quite loud  saying the name of the stop, and the name also scrolls by on electronic message displays mounted in the bus ceiling.
This new feature will help make transit more accessible for passengers with disabilities.
